Clemence brings a wealth of academic excellence and professional credentials to our team. A Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and Fellow of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) since 2006, he has established a strong foundation in risk management. Complementing this expertise is a Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF), attained in 2018 from the CQF Institute, which further solidifies his proficiency in quantitative finance. His academic journey includes an MSc in Quantitative Finance from the University of London and a BSc Hons in Mathematics from UZ. Additionally, Clemence has valuable exposure to actuarial science, enhancing his comprehensive understanding of risk assessment. Continuing his pursuit of knowledge and innovation, Clemence is currently advancing his expertise in Machine Learning in Finance at the Machine Learning Institute. His blend of academic prowess and continuous learning ensures that he remains abreast with developments in financial risk management and quantitative analytics.

Experience

Clemence brings a diverse and robust portfolio of experience within the financial services industry. He served as the Group Chief Risk Officer for a Diversified Financial Services Group in Harare, where he led a comprehensive Enterprise-Wide Risk Management framework (ERM) roll-out across all subsidiaries, including Banking, Microfinance, Asset Management, Life and Short-term Insurance, Properties, Risk Advisory, and all Support Services. Prior to this, as the Deputy Director at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in the Banking Supervision Division, he was instrumental in driving initiatives for Financial Stability, Financial Modelling, Basel III implementation, Regulatory Stress Testing, IFRS 9 implementation, and Risk-Based Examinations.

Additionally, Clemence held the position of Group Head of Market and Operational Risk at a Regional Financial Services Group, where he oversaw groupwide ERM rollout, Basel II implementation, and the development of ICAAP methodologies across operations in Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. His international experience is further underscored by his role as a Quantitative Risk Consultant (Credit Risk) at an International Bank in Amsterdam and his earlier contributions as a Sectional Manager within the International Insurance Services Group in the Life and Corporate Actuarial Departments.
